Pharmacy Prerequisites
The courses required for admission to pharmacy school vary depending on the school to which you are applying, but the minimum number of hours required for applying range from 60 to 90. For most pharmacy schools, you can expect to complete a year of a biological science. The courses that are most appropriate at UT are Biology 130 (biodiversity) and Biology 140 (cellular biology). Please note that Biology 140 has prerequisites of Biology 130 and Chemistry 120. In addition, Biology 140 has a corequisite of Chemistry 130.
In addition, almost all pharmacy schools require a year of general chemistry (Chemistry 120 and 130), a year of organic chemistry (Chemistry 350, 360-369), one or two semesters of physics (Physics 221 and 222), a semester of calculus, a semester of statistics, and a representation of humanities and social science courses.
The UT College of Pharmacy requires a minimum of 90 hours. In addition to the courses listed above, the UT College of Pharmacy requires a year of biochemistry (Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology 401 and 402), a year of anatomy and physiology (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology 240 and Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology 230), general microbiology with a lab (Microbiology 210 or 310-319), and immunology (Microbiology 430).
You should review the prerequisites carefully for any pharmacy program you are considering.
