Advising the Transfer Student
What Every Advisor Should Know
Did you know?
- Transfer students who wish to graduate in one of the honors categories at UT must complete 60 graded hours at UT.
- Grades taken at institutions other than UT do not count in the UT GPA and are therefore listed on the academic history as “s/p” hours.
- Hours from transfer institutions count toward eligibility in priority registration.
- Transfer students must complete at least 60 hours at a four year (senior) institution in order to earn a UT degree.
- Courses transfer to UT with the notation of LD (lower division) or UD (upper division) when an equivalent course is not offered at UT.
- LD and UD courses count toward the 120 hours required for graduation, and in the case of UD, for the 42 hour rule. They are listed at the end of the DARS report.
- LD and UDcourses often meet the spirit of a UT requirement, but must be petitioned to count for a specific requirement.
- Requests for substitutions (petitions) must include course descriptions and syllabi.
