Appointment of Professor Robert Daverman as Interim Associate Dean

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Daverman of the Department of Mathematics as Interim Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Studies, and Facilities in the College. Professor Daverman will officially begin his appointment as Interim Associate Dean on July 1, 2009.

Bob Daverman will bring a wealth of wisdom and experience to the College office. A faculty member at UTK since 1967, he served as Interim Head of the Department of Mathematics from 2003-2006. Bob is a distinguished scholar of geometric topology and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also serves as Secretary of the American Mathematical Society, a position he has held since 1999. We are delighted that he has agreed to serve in this leadership role in the College.

Bob has made it clear that he does not want to be considered for the “regular” appointment as Associate Dean. We will be conducting a search for the new Associate Dean in the coming academic year.

This is also an opportunity to thank Bill Dunne again for seven years of dedicated and excellent service as Associate Dean. As many of you know, Bill has accepted a position as Associate Dean in the College of Engineering, a new challenge that he is excited to take on. We wish him well and are delighted that he is still a valued faculty member in our College. We will have the opportunity to thank Bill more formally at the Winter Convocation in December.
