Graduate Students in Printmaking Receive National Recognition

Crystal Wagner, a third-year student has had her prints selected for three national juried competitions: "29th Annual Paper in Particular National Juried Show", Columbia College, Columbia, MO; "Ingenious Imprints National Juried Exhibition", Longwood University, Farmville, VA; and "7th Annual Janet Turner National Print Competition", Janet Turner Museum, Chico, CA. As part of a national competition for graduate students, she has also been selected to be a Visiting Artist at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA. Wagner received her undergraduate degree from the Atlanta College of Art.
Sarah Shebaro, a third-year student has had work selected for “12x12: The 2nd Annual National Juried Exhibition of Small Works of Art” at Middle Tennessee State University. Shebaro received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa.
Katherine Nanfro, a third-year student has work in “20/20 Vision: The Art of Contemporary University Printmaking”, at the Firehouse Gallery in Louisville, Georgia. Jessie Van der Laan, a second-year student has been selected to chair a session titled “Sharing Experience: The Role of Memory in Art” at the Southeastern College Art Conference hosted by the University of New Orleans in September 2008. Van der Laan received her undergraduate degree from Washington University, St. Louis. Ericka Walker, a first-year student is the inaugural recipient of Frogman's Print & Paper Workshop Graduate Scholarship. The nationally competitive scholarship will cover her expenses to participate in two weeks at the Frogman's Print & Paper Workshop at the University of South Dakota in July 2008 where she will present an exhibition of her work in Gallery 110 of the Warren M. Lee Fine Arts Center. Walker received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Jessie Van der Laan, Ericka Walker and Daniel Maw, a first-year student will be Visiting Artists at the Kansas City Art Institute February 4-8, 2008 where they are conducting a workshop, exhibiting their prints and giving public lectures. Working with KCAI students they will create a wallpaper mural based on ideas and images from natural history for the Baty House, a liberal arts building on their campus.
